About “Damascus Steel”

Original Damascus steel was imported from India to Damascus, where bladesmiths forged them into swords; the technique was lost in the 1750’s. In 1973 Bill Moran a master bladesmith unveiled his “Damascus Steel” at a Knifemakers Guild Show. This is our current “Damascus Steel” known as pattern welding. Several types of steel and iron slices are welded together to form a billet, which is drawn out and folded until the desired number of layers are formed. This new “Damascus” Billet is then forged into a knife blank or a blade blank.
